New Integrative Counseling Center to hold Grand Opening on Dec. 1
Writer and journalist Johann Hari speaks eloquently about depression and anxiety — these feelings do not mean you are crazy; instead, they are symptoms of unmet human needs.
His new book, Lost Connections, Hari explores how some social scientists are uncovering evidence that depression and anxiety are largely caused by key problems with the way we live today. Hari´s journey took him from a mind-blowing series of experiments in Baltimore, to an Amish community in Indiana, to an uprising in Berlin. Once he had uncovered nine real causes of depression and anxiety, they led him to scientists who are discovering seven very different solutions – ones that work.
In this short video, Hari summarizes his findings and encourages people to talk about their pain and experiences with those who do not judge. Flourish! is all about creating a judgement-free zone as well as non-pharmaceutical approaches to healing depression and anxiety and Johann’s words wring true for us.
Some studies have shown that consumption of nonnutritive sweeteners, mostly in diet sodas, has been associated with increased risk for type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and obesity. Nonnutritive sweeteners possibly promote metabolic dysregulation by affecting our gut bacteria (or microbiota), impacting our sweet-taste receptors, and interfering with our body's response to control blood sugar.
