Anxiety, Depression, Thyroid, Hormones, Blood Sugar

I have been a nurse practitioner for over ten years and specialize in Functional Medicine to treat illness and optimize overall health. My passion lies in investigating the root cause of your symptoms and then customizing a functional, whole-body approach to heal disease and mental health symptoms so you can thrive!

Sarah’s Story:

After battling with years of digestive problems and severe, sometimes debilitating anxiety, and with no guidance from conventional medicine, I felt exhausted and defeated. I remember visiting my gynecologist and telling her I felt like a hormonal mess and requesting that she check my hormone levels. Her response was to disregard my request, telling me “all your hormones are normal”, only to offer me an anti-depressant medication.

Around that time a colleague convinced me to attend my first functional medicine conference. I was in awe...finally I found what I had been looking for in medicine, an approach that aims to uncover the ROOT CAUSE of a problem, rather than band-aiding it with a medication! At that same time I became a patient under the care of a functional medicine practitioner who not only diagnosed me with leaky gut and celiac disease, but also found significant nutrition and hormone imbalances. She had me focus on balancing my diet to control drastic swings in my blood sugars, cleaning it up by removing gluten, and restoring healthy gut function and hormone balance. Additionally, I learned tools to help manage my stress such as mindfulness and vagus nerve stimulation.

The impact these interventions made in my life both physically and mentally were truly amazing and I no longer have to suffer. I can’t tell you how often patients come to my practice describing this same story, or much worse.

While my practice involves a wide array of disorders, my specialty areas include hormones, thyroid disorders, blood sugar dysfunction and gut disorders. Research continues to uncover links between these and psychiatric and brain disorders, and correcting dysfunction particularly in these areas can have a huge impact on our emotional health and cognitive function.
